On April 26, 1986, the world's worst nuclear disaster occurred at the Chernobyl plant in Ukraine. The explosion and subsequent fire spread radioactive material across large parts of Europe.

Our story begins in 1941 when World War II blockades bring Sweden's textile industry to a standstill due to material shortages. The bobbin factory in Vålberg is also affected and operations are shut down.

URBAN EXPLORATION

Folkfritt is a photography project documenting abandoned places and their stories. Through our images and narratives, we aim to preserve the memory of these places before they disappear forever.

From the ghostly streets of Pripyat to decommissioned Swedish industries – every place has its own unique story to tell.
